godHead The General Mixtape

The birth place of hip hop, The Bronx, spawned Godhead The General, one of the nicest Lyricists whose style can not be tracked as a "sound-alike" to any MC out there. Godhead The General is a Latin American born during the essence and rise of hip hop. He witnessed the beginnings, the development, and globalization of hip hop right in his own back yard. godHead incorporated elements of hip hop into his livelihood before the world had even embraced hip hop as a culture. From break dancing to eventually MCing, he learned that style and originality were vital if you wanted to stand out.

Following the release of The Introduction Lord of War Vol. One and prior to the release of the forthcoming fall 2008 release of Behold...The Tyrant, godHead The General is nearly set to release the anticipated Introducing...The Mixtape, the collab between godHead The General and "Mr. Street Sickness" himself DJ Soul Buck. Soul Buck is the DJ to Cee Knowledge aka Doodlebug of Digable planets. You'll hear production from godHead's superproducer Mekz One aka "Who made that beat?!" (Philly); The Other Guys (NYC), Nile Hardin (Philly), Edaye and Ambush (NYC), Lazlo (PA), Monzi (Sweden), Kush Shalimar (Philly), DJ Pham (NYC) and more.

From collabs with various producers and MCs, this project displays the versitality in godHead The General's style-playing off of the flow of a the beat and the emotion felt at the moment. His music is thought provoking, lyrical, emotional, street, true to life, bug-out, and appealing to both underground and commercial fans. "I refuse to be classified as an emcee who sticks to only one theme or even one style or one flow"- godHead The General

Introducing...The Mixtape is complimented with DJ Soul Buck's cutting and mixing skills. We're taking it back to the days of the actual tape deck era when the DJ ruled the airwaves and displayed their skills. The days when an MC made their name by being original. This mixtape/album of all original music, is a testament to the art form of DJing and MCing and is hosted by Grammy award winning Cee Knowledge aka Doodlebug of Digable Planets. Introducing...The Mixtape is promised to be one of the hottest you've heard all year!

There will be a special invite listening party for godHead The General's mixtape on Wednesday July 16th at Medusa Lounge in Philly.

godHead The General is returning homw to perform at The Knitting Factory July 10th for Verbal Revolution NYC

Mekz One's "Black Waltz Vol. One"

The anticipated Black Waltz Vol. One by Producer/MC Mekz One is soon due for release. Tracks range from head nodding beats and rhymes to melodramatic sounds expressing emotion, struggle, and the love of hip hop culture. Utilizing the "chop & paste" method made famous by legendary producers such as Pete Rock, DJ Premier, and Large Professor, plus applying his unique touch and his own unique style, Mekz One went on to create one of the most influential production styles in Philadelphia music history.

Mekz was introduced to godHead The General over the phone by a mutaul associate who wanted Mekz to hear godHead's lyrical skills. Mekz was intrigued and began passing beat CDs to godhead The General who was intrigued with the nostalgic essence of Mekz One's instrumentals. Mekz One became godHead The General's official producer as the beats and rhymes became a marriage. With no beat produced ever sounding the same, yet producing nothing less than bangers, Mekz One took on the aka "Who Made That Beat?" when MCs constantly asked at weekly ciphers whose banger they were spittin to. The answer was Mekz One. In addition to producing music for godHead The General, he also has produced beats for himself; his group Grease Monkeys; almost entire albums for Akua Naru; Prosper Jones; tracks for Malik B of The Roots; Cee Knowledge of Digable Planets; Wise Intelligent; Jeru The Damaja;  Killa Face; The Knomadz, and more.

Mekz quickly developed the art of freestyle and began to pursue his other passion of being an MC (the reason he began making beats). While being introduced as an MC through ciphers; performing on sets with his group Grease Monkeys on tour with mentor godHead The General; building with Icarus, Divine Wise Eternal and Killa Face, Mekz One has quickly established his lyrism skills to match his production skills.

On Thursday August 21st at The Knitting Factory for Verbal Revolution NYC, you can come here for yourself why Mekz One is known as cipher lengend and why he holds the aka "Who Made That Beat?"

Magnum O Mixtape

Enter the street consious side of West Philly when you listen to Magnum O's Where The Sidewalk Ends Mixtape. Born Prince, L Tyrannic and Raskul bring that knowledge based hip hop reminiscent to the sounds of Wu Tang Clan with their teachings from the 5% nation of gods and earths. Magnum O also takes you to the gritty streets where it's survival of the fittest delivered with back to back word play through lyricism. Where The Sidewalk Ends is available in local Philadelphia stores like Pedestrian on 3rd and South and soon to be released online to many online stores as a digital download.

Magnum O does this for the people, loves good music and are tired of the current state of rap. They are constantly looking for crowds to rip, and truth to spread. Born Prince and L Tyrannic are two late 70's babies from West Philly (Power Hill Why)  feel they are sent by Allah to speak the truth. It all started in Build Build (88) when Born Prince & L Tyrannic became A-alikes. That next year (89) they built with countless MCs who were dedicated to the art of emceeing. One in particular, Raskul who recently returned home from the Air Force.

Born Prince and L Tyrannic now have Rass back- a secret weapon that hasn't been heard in years. He's automatically Magnum O because they started together in the early 90's. Since Rass' return Magnum O has started several projects: Heavy Artilery a mixture of past present and future projects. Where The Sidewalk Ends new mixtape thats sure to set them apart. They are now putting the finishing touches on an album exclusively for the ladies called God's Earth, and just started the Art Of Storytelling. All are set for release in 08 season.

Magnum O will be performing at Verbal Revolution NYC at the Knitting Factory Thursday 7/10/08, showing NYC the next group to come out of West Philly.

Ahd Child's Reverse Psychology

Creative, emotional, musical, and disturbing, Reverse Psychology is a combination of intelligent hip-hop lyricism and convention-defying music that explores many of the contradictions of human experience - heroism and hatred, cowardice and compassion.

Ahd Child met and began to work with the team that would eventually become the label/collective known as ThorTakeOver. With the help of his fellow artists, he continued to educate himself in many aspects of music making - from production to composition to engineering. It was also during this period that Ahd Child began the experimentation with various forms of electronic music which eventually lead to his 2006 release, Meeting of Minds. Reverse Psychology, Ahd Child’s second full length release, marked his return to his hip-hop roots as it simultaneously showcased his composition, production and lyrical talents.

Ahd Child draws on a wide variety of influences that combine to give his music a sound and lyrical content that constantly make it stand out from the pack. The reggae and soca he was raised on in a West Indian household, the classical music he was exposed to while spending much of his childhood taking piano lessons, the soul, rock, and electronic music he discovered on his own as he got older, all of these elements can be heard in the music he currently makes. Ahd Child is accustomed to hearing variety, and when making music he embraces variety. The resulting product always ends up being quite atypical of whatever genre one is moved to classify it in. Anyone who hears his music quickly learns that Ahd (pronounced odd) Child truly deserves his name.

Currently Ahd Child continues to write and produce his own projects. Additionally through his studio, 828 recording, Ahd Child provides recording, engineering and additional production services to fellow ThorTakeOver members and artists (Godhead, Mekz One, Akua Naru, Grease Monkeys, Magnum O). His clientele has also included internationally known artists such as Malik B of The Roots and Cee Knowledge of Digable Planets, as well as many artists local to Philadelphia.

Ahd Child will be rocking the stage at the Knitting Factory Thursday August 21st for Verbal Revolution NYC
